Ho ho ho. An argument that amuses me no end, common on FB, in the media, and basically everywhere humans open their mouths. "Oh yeah? Well what about YOUR candidate/friend/whatever. They did THIS! So why are you complaining about MY candidate/friend/whatever?"
The argument is quite literally one that's first discovered at the age of seven or so. "But MOM, Billy's mom lets him do it so why can't I??!" Along with "Timmy was late for dinner and HE didn't get grounded!" Remember the response? "I'm not Billy's mom, I'm yours. And while you're living here you'll behave like a gentleman." "Timmy's mom can deal with Timmy - I'm dealing with you." It makes me sad to see men and women with decades under their belts trotting out such idiotic rejoinders as to why your criticism of their guy or gal isn't valid. As our not-lamented, ex fake president said when pulling a different sort of sub-teenager response to a planned SAG action against him "Who cares?" The fact that a prior administration did something wrong has zero bearing on criticism of the current administration for doing a similar thing wrong. Wrong is wrong. Doing a bad thing in the past doesn't somehow create a precedent that it's now not-bad. If the prior person wasn't punished appropriately that's unfortunate; it's a miscarriage of justice. However it's also precisely ZERO justification for lowering standards today. I think this was covered in math class. Something like: Two wrongs don't make a right. And two rights make an about face.
