Unbelievable! I spoke with Apple a second time today, after finding out that my brother was having the exact same issue as me with our iPhones. Namely that we archive a bunch of mail messages, put the phone in our pocket, carry on with life, and then when we next take out the phone the screen looks like this: This was from a video I took to "prove" to Apple that the issue is happening. What comes next is I have to tap the UNDO (hard to read but it's the choice on the right, below the "Undo Archive". Historically I randomly tapped both that and cancel since I didn't know why I actually had to "do" anything. Eventually, with multiple (a LOT of multiples) taps the screen would get less and less dark and I'd see the mail app more and more clearly and then, eventually, it'd be totally clear. And lots of mails that I had previously erased were back! Unerased!
It turns out that the second call to Apple, forwarded to a senior advisor, got a result. Namely that this is a FEATURE! It's a GOOD thing! They MEANT to drive their users insane. And to stop it happening, all you need to do is make sure you hit the power button before putting it in your pocket. Something I never ever had to do in the past. But now? Well, if I don't want to be staring at a black screen, now I have to. As do you, I suppose. I don't want to jump the gun but it's possible this is the dumbest feature yet unveiled by Mother Apple. I'll have to think about a bit before I can state it categorically. Quite the tempest in the teapot by rabid Take Offensivites this last few days. So I was inspired to a cartoon.
Digital and Real. A look at what I conceptualized on my iPad and what the final product was on paper. Combining digital and pigment as a synergistic collaboration was the whole point of my Paint and Pixels course offering. (paper and paint on the left - digital on the right)Digital and Real. I just ordered this watch from Amazon and Amazon mentioned to me that I've ordered it 4 times since 2013. What does that mean? It means it's a pretty good buy for what it is. And what it is is an alarm watch that's waterproof and has a reasonably strong powered vibration alarm. Perfect for nap-time. And the actual cost is around 15 bucks a year.
The reason for getting a new one? The band eventually splits apart. And each time it's happened I've thought "Wow, this'll band will be hard to get off seeing as it's so tightly squeezed in there. And I'll never get a new band that really looks right. AND the new band will cost money." How much money? On the same order as a new watch, sadly. So it's hi ho to Amazon and another couple of years of use on a new one. On the left, an iPad digital exploration of where I wanted to go with the underlying line drawing, once I started to paint. And on the right, an iPad exploration of where I wanted to go AFTER I'd already painted a first wash of the sky, the buildings and the wall/tunnel. Next up, seeing where the actual painting ends up. What do you think?
