Doing a portrait, among other paintings. And here's a peek at the process. Beginning with a masked sketch, and ending with a bit of color. The yellow in the hat at the top is a wash of watercolor, not masking fluid. But the rim of the hat, some highlights in the microphone stand/cord as well as the eyes are masked for sure. Not done by any means but the skin and hat are close.
OMG. I just saw the top sign on yesterday's drive. And you know what that's a simplified graphic for, right? I mean, it's obvious.
Terrifying, man-eating ground toads! (woman-eating too, I'll bet) Here's the second of my three submissions to the Aspen Center Exhibition. He started life kinda usual but as the contrast increased he gained some drama.
Here's a view of a recent portrait I've finished. I'll tell you, I had to work quickly - my model just couldn't sit still!
Nice news yesterday - I've got two of my paintings going up in the Aspen Center Exhibition at John Muir here in Walnut Creek! Submission date the end of this week and official start of the show the following Monday. If you're nearby, come on by! 133 La Casa Via, Walnut Creek, CA 94598 and the show runs from September 16 - October 31.
Getting ready to do a portrait and this was some quick practice with color. Nobody you know - purely a made-up image!
How early? Not too bad, 5 AM. I was going to the gym when I saw really interesting clouds in the still dark sky. So a short delay to get my camera and tripod to do some night photography. Then I turned the camera toward a black section of sky just to see what I'd see. 30 second exposure and here's the result.
First of all - look at those stars! And the colors! I see blue, violet, red, orange and yellow (and white). And look above the tree. What do you see? A faint dead straight line segment. It's not a plane (there's a plane on part of the original image that I cropped out and it's WAY brighter and you see the regular pulses of the lights). My speculation is that it's a satellite, or "orbiting body" to be more fancy pants. Doesn't show up on later pics of the same area of sky, which makes sense. Pretty nifty, huh? |
